The conscience of campus: why this election is a moral imperative

With SRC elections around the corner, we are surrounded by manifestos and campaign promises. But after interviewing several aspirants this week, I've realized that student leadership is about something much deeper than just "management." The SRC is the conscience of our campus. It is the driving force that ensures student voices are heard. In this season of elections, we must focus on what truly matters. It is time for management to tune in and support the SRC in protecting the safety, security, and interests of every student. More Than Just an Institution A university isn’t just a place to get a degree; it is a training ground for the nation’s future leaders. For this to work, management must recognize that student welfare is not an "optional" extra based on academic performance. Every student is valuable and deserves a seat at the table. When management and the SRC team up with the right intentions, we create an environment where inclusivity is harnessed and progress is inevitable. A Challenge to the Aspirants To those running: the battle is not easy. Leadership will test, stretch, and mould you in ways you don’t expect. From my own experience in leadership, I know that without grace and ethical conviction, it is easy to be held down by external pressures. Leadership will teach you responsibility, service, and how to communicate a vision. But it demands that you act on principle and duty rather than personal desire or convenience. I want to leave the aspirants, and the voters with one question: Are we acting based on what is convenient, or are we acting based on a principle that we would be comfortable seeing everyone else follow?
