University of professional studies, Accra hosts Ghana-Italy circular economy dialogue

The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has hosted a two-day Ghana–Italy Circular Economy Dialogue aimed at strengthening partnerships and advancing sustainable industrial transformation. The event, held from 16 to 17 June 2026, brought together government officials, diplomats, academics and industry leaders to explore opportunities for collaboration between the two countries. Discussions focused on Ghana's circular economy potential and strategies for promoting sustainable production and resource efficiency. Participants examined ways to deepen Ghana–Italy cooperation in areas such as innovation, industrial development and environmental sustainability, with the goal of creating more resilient and competitive economies. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice-Chancellor Professor John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor underscored the need for businesses to adopt environmentally responsible and efficient production models. He noted that Italy's experience in sustainability and enterprise development offers valuable lessons for Ghana, adding that the circular economy presents significant opportunities for innovation, entrepreneurship, job creation and long-term economic growth.
