UPSA SRC election 2026; are campaign freebies sustainable?

As elections heat up at the University of Professional Studies, Accra, a clear trend has emerged: aspirants offering free data bundles and shuttle services to students as part of their campaigns. These giveaways are popular. They ease internet and transport costs for many students. But they raise questions about long term sustainability. Most are funded personally or through short term support, making them hard to maintain once campaigning ends. The real issue is continuity. If a candidate loses, the services usually stop immediately. Even winners struggle to keep these promises within the limited budgets of student leadership. This leaves the UPSA student body with a key question: Should leadership be judged by temporary relief or by practical, sustainable policies that last a full term? As elections approach, students should look beyond campaign incentives and weigh feasibility, accountability, and long term impact.
