UPSA SRC race intensifies amid lecture interruption complaints

Candidates vying for positions in the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) Student Representative Council (SRC) have significantly increased their campaign efforts across campus in recent days. This surge in activity comes as students express growing concerns about disruptions to their academic work. Candidates are increasingly visible on campus and within lecture halls, often engaging directly with students. However, some students feel these tactics are adversely affecting their learning experience. "I think some of the candidates are going a bit overboard," remarked Doreenda Zounaa, a first-year Communication Studies student. "They usually come into our classrooms and cause a lot of noise. To me, most of their pitches seem like just propaganda." Samuel Bernasko, also studying Communication, echoed this sentiment, adding, "They keep interrupting our classes just to ask for votes. It's really frustrating because we’re trying to concentrate, and the workload is already heavy." In response to these issues, many students have proposed alternative campaign methods that would not interfere with lectures. They suggest that candidates should focus their canvassing efforts on public spaces to avoid disrupting lessons. As the campaign season unfolds, students are advocating for a more organized and respectful approach. Their aim is to ensure that the electoral process runs smoothly while upholding academic commitments.
