UPSA champions cultural identity through National Fugu Day celebration

The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) proudly joined the national observance of National Fugu Day, reaffirming its commitment to promoting Ghanaian cultural heritage and supporting locally made products. As part of activities marking the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, hosted visiting partner universities at a dinner on Tuesday, 24 February 2026. The gathering provided an opportunity to highlight Government’s initiative encouraging Ghanaians and friends of Ghana to dedicate Wednesdays to the wearing of Fugu (Batakari), a traditional handwoven smock that represents cultural pride and national identity. In a gesture of Ghanaian hospitality, Prof. John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor presented locally made Batakari smocks to members of the visiting delegations, who expressed appreciation for the cultural significance of the attire and their readiness to participate in the celebration.
