UPSA launches laptop assembly plant to boost practical learning

The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), officially launched its laptop assembly plant on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, to provide students with practical experience in laptop assembling in order to bridge the gap between classroom learning and industry practice.
Speaking at the launch, the Vice-Chancellor of UPSA, Professor John Mawutor, mentioned the initiative would involve students from various faculties, rather than only those studying Information Technology (IT).
He explained that the project aims to promote technology-enabled learning and produce locally assembled laptops that meet international standards, with the university targeting local production of about 30 per cent of the laptop components.
The plant comprises an assembly room, a research room, an ageing room for product testing, a classroom and a practical room where students can gain hands-on experience.
